MusiCapitol’s Interview of Artist/DJ Bustrexx

MusiCapitol – Lets start at the beginning. At what age did you pick up music? And what
instrument did you start with?

Bustrexx – I have been interested in music since as far as I can remember – since a very young age I was fascinated with vinyl (and still am to this day!). It wasn’t until I was about 11 when I started taking a proper interest in general music, and I started playing the guitar by the age of 13. Since then I have also picked up singing and piano, and all three skills have massively helped my progress my musical career to where it is today.

MusiCapitol – Did you have any formal music education before you started producing
your own tracks?

Bustrexx – In a way I guess I did! I was studying for my GCSE in music when I first used any music software. Creating music from scratch on a computer interested me beyond belief, and I’d just got into the whole Drum & Bass/Dubstep scene at the same time I started the first year of my GCSE’s and due to my addictive personality I pursued production at home on ACID Pro 7. I was also trained in classical guitar at school to grade 4… well I skipped grades 1 -3 but it still counts right? Since I started producing I have finished a BTEC in music technology with highest grades and I’m now studying Popular Music Performance at university!

MusiCapitol - Why Drum and Bass? We can all tell you have a passion for what you do,
where did that passion start?

Bustrexx – When I was a kid I was never really into Drum & Bass or any form of electronic music! I was in a high school band when I first ever heard Drum & Bass. I was 14 years old and my friend sent me a 20 second clip of Pendulum’s ‘Spiral’ and since then I was absolutely hooked. Drum & Bass, at the time for me, was insanely different to all the music I’d ever heard before. I was listening for a good year before I tried my hand at producing, though!

MusiCapitol – What is your creative process when you sit down and are producing a
track? (What Sparks your creativity)

Bustrexx – Many things spark my creativity when it comes to music, I always feel the need to write new songs after I sign a new tune, I’m pretty sure that’s where the feel good vibes come from with a lot of my tunes! I’m hoping a fair few people notice how pop culture has influenced some of my tunes too, tunes like Portal Storms and True To Our Destiny are mainly influenced by Half Life (I am the biggest Half Life fanboy there is). Aside from stuff like that, I find I write my best music late at night. I require a lot of atmosphere to get into the right mood to write songs like Wave By Wave and Broken Heart Syndrome, so after staying up until 5am when my room is cold, there’s no one about and there’s peace outside my creative spark kicks in.

MusiCapitol – Now its time to talk future! As a young producer the future is a bright.
What are your short term plans? (shows, labels, Albums, ect.)

Bustrexx – Ah the future! I have a lot of things planned for my career in the future. Most people will know by now that I recently joined the STAN SB live act, a three piece electronic Drum & Bass band performing Stan’s music live. I play the guitar, sing backing and sometimes play synth and we have huge plans for the future! Currently we’re still setting up the live act but when it’s ready, we’ll be playing shows left right and centre. As for my producing/DJ stuff, I’m currently in talks with doing an album with a new label that will be fronted by myself and a few other high profile producers, which is really exciting. Keep a keen out for Cappuccini Recordings!

MusiCapitol – What about long term? (Where do you see yourself in 3 years time? (Plans to get there?)

Bustrexx – Well, that’s a tough one. I’m really hoping that the STAN SB live act will have properly taken off by then, it’s so much fun hanging out with Stanley and Dan (Drummer in STAN SB) and they’re amazing musicians to work with. I’m also hoping to have some regular DJ sets, which would be nice… if anyone reading this knows any promoters or anything then hit me up! I’m also hoping to finally release some of my tunes on 12″ vinyl, that’d be a dream come true for me. Hopefully when Cappuccini Recordings gets into full swing that could be happening! Also, I’m not sure whether I should be saying but me and Mr.TwoThirds have some exciting plans for the future together too, so hopefully gigs with TwoThirds will be a very regular occurrence in the future!

MusiCapitol – We all appreciate you taking the time to do this interview, Bustrexx. We
wish you the best, and will keep up to date on your progress in the near

Bustrexx – It’s all good! Many thanks for the interest and I thank everyone who took the time to read this too!

MusiCapitol – Last words?

Bustrexx – Ok, last words go out to Stanley and Dan, Feint, TwoThirds, Luke C, Memro, Felix for being a sexy bastard, Mike from PA (Sorry I missed you last time man!), The Mourning People, Kandinskii and anyone I might of missed.
